Travel Insurance Tanzania

Tanzania has introduced new mandatory travel insurance for all tourists, now required directly upon arrival in mainland Tanzania—and a separate policy is needed for Zanzibar. Here’s everything you need to know:
🌍 Travel Insurance Tanzania Mainland
(Effective July 1, 2025)
-
Adults (18+): USD 44
-
Children (3–17): USD 22
-
Infants (under 3): Free
-
Valid for 62 days
When & where you buy it
Grab your insurance on arrival—either at airport or land borders. Servers may fail, so bring USD in cash to avoid delays.
✅ This covers health emergencies, evacuation, theft, baggage delays, repatriation, and personal liability.
⚠️ Even if you already have travel insurance, this local policy is still mandatory
🏝️ Zanzibar Travel Insurance (Effective October 1, 2024)
-
Adults: USD 44
-
Children (3–17): USD 22
-
Infants (under 3): Free
-
Valid for up to 92 days
How to buy it
Must be purchased online before arrival via the official portal (visitzanzibar.go.tz). You’ll receive a QR code to show at immigration.
➡️ Travelers can also buy at the airport or ferry terminal—but online purchase saves time and avoids pickup issues.
✅ Covers medical emergencies, evacuation, baggage loss/delay, personal accident & liability, legal expenses, and more.
⚠️ Your own travel insurance does not replace this; it’s mandatory for entry to Zanzibar. Lacking proof may block entry.

✅ Quick Comparison
| Location | Who pays | Cost (Adults) | Validity | Purchase method |

We truly understand that this may feel like an inconvenience, and we’re very sorry for that. However, while tour operators do speak out against such regulations, we believe it’s important to respect the decisions made by the Tanzanian government. As a company operating responsibly within the country, we unfortunately have no power to influence or change these rules. What we can promise, though, is to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible for you.
