From Jungle Walks to Starry Stumbles: Huffing, Puffing, and Peak Joy during 8 days Mount Kilimanjaro - Lemosho

Our 8 days Mount Kilimanjaro - Lemosho Route begins with a drive that feels like a road trip into the wild. Yes, it takes a bit longer to get to Londorossi Gate, but every twist and turn brings new views and more anticipation. Once we arrive, it's clear—this is not your average mountain path. The Lemosho Route is wild, scenic, and wonderfully quiet. Just the way we like it.

Soon after we start walking, the rainforest wraps around us like a green, leafy hug. The air feels crisp and cool, with birds calling from above and monkeys playing hide-and-seek in the treetops. It's a gentle introduction, but one that already makes our boots feel important.

Bit by bit, the landscape changes. The dense jungle slowly gives way to wide moorland. Suddenly, we're among tall heathers and strange plants that look like they belong on another planet. It's quieter now, more open, with dramatic skies and space to breathe deeply. Every step feels like progress—not just up, but away from the ordinary.

Eventually, we reach the vast Shira Plateau. It’s a place where the horizon stretches so far, it almost feels like we’re already on top of the world. The air is thin, the silence almost sacred. We pause here, just long enough to say “wow” about a dozen times, then begin our descent toward Barranco Valley. And just when we think it can’t get better—boom! Elephants. Or maybe buffalo. If we’re lucky. If not, well, the views aren’t exactly disappointing.

Pole Pole: Because Mount Kilimanjaro Isn’t a Race, It’s a Very Steady Dance

Thanks to our steady pace, our bodies adjust day by day. There’s no rush, no pressure—just time to enjoy, adapt, and let the mountain do its thing. Acclimatization happens quietly in the background, like good music during a dinner party. It keeps the vibe just right.

With each day, the team grows tighter. We laugh, we groan, we share snacks and stories. Even the toughest parts—the rocky climbs, the never-ending uphill paths—turn into good memories, mostly because we face them together. And maybe because someone always brings chocolate.

Before we know it, we’re setting up camp beneath the stars, ready for summit night. The air buzzes with energy, nerves, and excitement. Over dinner, we trade encouragement like it’s candy. We know the next part won’t be easy. But we’re ready.

Sleeping with the Stars (and Maybe a Snorer): Camp Life on Kilimanjaro - Lemosho Route

Then, in the dark hours before dawn, it begins. Headlamps on. Layers zipped. Spirits high. The stars are so close, it feels like we might accidentally step on one. Slowly, steadily, we climb. Past Rhino Point. Cobra Point. Past the point where most people stop talking.

And finally, on top of Mount Kilimanjaro—just as the sky blushes with light—we reach Uhuru Peak. There are cheers. Maybe a few tears. And definitely a lot of photos. The view? Let’s just say: clouds below, sun above, and the entire continent stretching out around us. It’s worth every step, every blister, every awkward moment with a sleeping bag.

Coming down is easier on the legs but harder on the heart. We’re already missing the mountain, even as we head back down through the shifting scenery—from moon-like slopes to green valleys once again. The final stretch to Momella Gate feels like closing a really, really good book.

Climbing Kilimanjaro via Lemosho Route isn’t just about reaching the summit. It’s about the slow, wonderful build-up. The landscapes, the people, the laughter, and those little moments when you suddenly realize you’re stronger than you thought.
