Description
The 7 days Mount Kilimanjaro-Machame route is a thrilling journey to the legendary Roof of Africa. Known as the "Whiskey Route", this trail is a little tougher and slightly more expensive than Marangu. But many trekkers choose it for its unforgettable scenery and better chances to acclimatize.
This adventure is perfect for hikers with a bit of experience and a love for the wild. From rainforest to glaciers, the 7 days Mount Kilimanjaro-Machame route shows you five different climate zones. You'll start in lush green forest. Then, you cross the wide-open Shira Plateau, a place where the views stretch forever.
Therefore each day brings new highlights. You might scramble up the dramatic Lava Tower. Or conquer the steep Great Barranco Wall. And you’ll walk beneath the shining southern ice field—an otherworldly experience. Because it’s popular, you’ll likely meet fellow adventurers along the way.
Acclimatisation - 7 days Mount Kilimanjaro-Machame
One of the best parts of the 7 days Mount Kilimanjaro-Machame route is its acclimatisation plan. Then, you’ll “walk high and sleep low”, giving your body time to adjust. An extra acclimatisation day is included. Therefore, you have a better chance of reaching the summit—and enjoying the journey.
Your summit day begins at night. First, you’ll leave Barafu Camp in the dark, aiming to reach the peak by sunrise. Then, after conquering the summit, you start your descent. Next, you follow the peaceful Mweka Route, which offers a different and beautiful perspective of the mountain. Finally, you return to base camp, completing your unforgettable journey.
