Description

Three Days, One Volcano, Zero Regrets: Your (Slightly Sweaty) 3 days Mount Meru Adventure Awaits!

Your 3 days Mount Meru adventure kicks off with excitement in the air. Whether you’re leaving from Arusha or Moshi, the road soon leads you toward the green embrace of Arusha National Park. As you near the Momella Gate, the forest seems to welcome you in — birds chirp, leaves rustle, and somewhere nearby, a colobus monkey is probably gossiping. Once you set off, the trail meanders through rainforest so alive you might forget you’re climbing a mountain. Every now and then, a buffalo or a giraffe might casually stroll by — no big deal, just your everyday safari-meets-mountain moment. The path begins to rise, almost like Mount Meru is testing your enthusiasm. As you climb, the forest thickens, the air cools, and by late afternoon, you arrive at Miriakamba Hut. You’ll settle in for the night, surrounded by the humming forest and dreams of the summit above.

Time to Hibernate Like a Forest Buffalo – You've Earned That Sleep!

After a good night’s sleep and perhaps a few monkey calls in the distance, the second day of the 3 days Mount Meru adventure begins. With each step, the thick jungle slowly makes way for open moorland. It’s as if the mountain is revealing one secret at a time. Now and then, a breeze brings the scent of wild herbs, and as you glance back, the view opens up — vast, green, and maybe even a peek at Kilimanjaro on a clear day. The trail gently climbs higher, until Saddle Hut comes into view. Once there, it's time to relax — or not. For the eager and the restless, a quick acclimatization hike to Little Meru is the perfect excuse to chase yet another view. From up there, everything feels closer to the sky. As the sun starts to dip, you return to Saddle Hut. Dinner, rest, and anticipation fill the air. Tomorrow is summit day.

Rise and Shine… It’s Only 2 AM and the Summit of Mount Meru Awaits!

When it’s still dark and quiet, and the stars haven’t gone to sleep yet, it’s time to begin. Headlamps on, hearts pounding a little faster — you move. Step by step, you pass Rhino Point, then Cobra Point, the trail lit by beams of light and your own determination. Slowly, the eastern sky begins to blush. You’re almost there. And then suddenly — the summit. Just in time for sunrise. The light spills across the plains, touches the peak of Mount Meru, and paints everything in gold. It’s cold, it’s wild, it’s perfect. And yes, it was all worth it.

But the adventure isn’t quite over yet. The way down begins with a proud heart and tired legs. After returning to Saddle Hut, you take a well-earned rest — maybe with a big smile and a hot drink. Then comes the last descent, through the moorlands, into the forest, past familiar trees and sounds that now feel like old friends. Finally, you reach Momella Gate. You’ve done it! And as you step off the trail, it’s not just Mount Meru you’ve conquered — it’s a part of yourself, too.
